The Department of Forests has issued a statement regarding complaints about tree removal at Akademia Park in Aglantzia. According to the statement, the works concern flood control projects being implemented based on the Flood Risk Management Plan.

The projects in the National Forest Park of the Pedagogical Academy aim to stem flood flows from the Katevas River and protect residential areas, as well as retain and utilize rainwater. The plan is implemented by the Water Development Department under the relevant 2010 law and European Directive 2007/60.

The Department of Forests emphasizes that the location and design of the retention lake, covering 3.8 hectares, were determined based on a hydrological and hydraulic study, with interventions to minimize environmental impact. It is also expected to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the park's natural environment.

The announcement comes in response to complaints from Volt, which expressed concerns about the removal of 50-70 trees without public consultation and presentation of the relevant study. Volt questioned the necessity of cutting down so many trees and the absence of public consultation.
