Aradippou: Environment Department Exhausted Means for Factory After Explosion
Share on:

The Department of Environment states that it has exhausted all available means for the factory collecting and managing scrap metal in Aradippou, where an explosion occurred last Friday. The Municipality of Aradippou is considering legal measures for a second factory in the area.

The Director of the Department, Theodoulos Mesimeris, stated that this particular unit has occupied the department quite a bit, as it was operating without a waste management license. The Department of Environment submitted a request to the Legal Service to cease the operation of the facility, but the company's lawyer requested a review.

The Mayor of Aradippou, Christodoulos Partou, stated that the Municipal Council decided to ask the Department of Environment to inform them why licenses were granted to the two units. A consultation was also requested from the Legal Advisor of the Municipality regarding possible legal actions against the owners of the two establishments.

Mr. Partou recalled that in 2019 the Attorney General proceeded with legal proceedings against one owner, with the Court imposing a fine of 600 euros in 2023.
