The procedure at the checkpoints remains the same, and crossings from the occupied territories to the free areas continue as normal, according to a statement by a press office official of the Police to ΚΥΠΕ.

The only change is the recording of additional information for those who present 'identity cards' of the pseudo-state, he added.

Earlier, Turkish Cypriot media, citing a statement from the 'Union of Turkish Cypriot workers in the south,' reported that the RoC is implementing new measures at the checkpoints, not allowing 'identity cards' of the pseudo-state.

According to the reports, from August 25, 2025, only those who have identity cards of the Republic of Cyprus or the European Union will be able to cross the checkpoints with these identity cards. In addition, those who have birth certificates must present them along with a photocopy of the identity card of their parent who is a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus.

The special representative of the Turkish Cypriot leader, Güneş Onar, told Kıbrıs Postası that the last thing they want is a new crisis and that they are monitoring the situation.

Mr. Onar stated that they raised the issue with the deputy head of the peacekeeping force in Cyprus, Aderemi Adekoya, and through the committee for the checkpoints.
