Increased Alert in Ilia Due to Rising Alfeios River

The municipalities of Pyrgos, Ancient Olympia, and Andritsaina-Krestena in Ilia are on increased alert following a warning about a dangerous rise in the Alfeios River level due to heavy rainfall. The concern is focused on the water coming down from Arcadia, with a particular burden on the section from Ladonas and below.
A team from the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Pyrgos conducted an autopsy on the Alfeios bridge, near a Roma settlement, to assess the situation and take preventive action. The head of the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Pyrgos, Kiki Dionysopoulou, stated that immediate intervention was carried out to ensure that the river's waters do not escape their course.
Inspections will continue and decisions on any additional measures will be taken depending on the evolution of the Alfeios level and weather conditions. The competent services remain on alert, taking into account the problems recorded in 2012.
