Ioannou Inspects Affected Areas in Limassol; Compensation Begins

Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, visited the affected communities in the Limassol district to inspect the progress of restoration measures following the recent fire. Practical problems and requests were discussed at the meeting with community leaders in Kivides.

Mr. Ioannou stated that the payment of the lump sum is completed tomorrow, and the damage assessment is progressing rapidly with simplified procedures. The first beneficiaries will be notified tomorrow for the start of compensation payments at the District Administration.

The problems recorded concern the restoration, cleaning, and flood protection works in view of the winter. Emphasis was given by the President of the Republic for rapid progress by all involved Ministries.

For unlicensed establishments, in consultation with the EOA Limassol, priority will be given to licensing those located in residential areas. Those outside residential areas will follow the procedure through the Deviation Study Council.

Skips have been requisitioned for the cleaning of materials, in cooperation with the Department of Environment. The compensation covers the reconstruction at market prices, the anti-seismic and static adequacy, the energy upgrade, and the cleaning of debris.

In a meeting with the competent Services and the District Administrations, instructions will be given for additional cleanings, and suggestions will be examined to avoid similar disasters in the future. The reinstatement of the rural guard institution is also being considered.

The president of the Union of Communities of Limassol, Lefteris Perikli, stressed the need for immediate implementation of the measures, while the Commissioner of Mountain Communities, Charalambos Christofinas, stated that the measures are progressing well.
