Calm has been restored in the buffer zone in the Deneia area after an incident involving the harassment of a Greek Cypriot farmer by the occupation army, according to the President of the Community Council, Charalambos Alexandrou.

The incident occurred when the farmer entered the buffer zone to cultivate his field. A military vehicle of the occupation forces approached him, asking him to leave.

Following representations by the Republic of Cyprus to UNFICYP, Mr. Alexandrou received assurances from the government that there had been an understanding with the UN and that a similar problem would not occur again.

The Government Spokesperson stated that the situation is being closely monitored, emphasizing that the Turkish occupation army is challenging the status of the Buffer Zone.
