Power Outages Disrupt X-rays at Diagnostic Centers

Diagnostic centers faced problems yesterday due to power outages, resulting in the interruption of X-rays for patients. Giorgos Kouttoukis, President of the Pancyprian Association of Diagnostic Centers, reported that examinations were interrupted while patients were inside the machines.
Mr. Kouttoukis expressed concerns about patient safety, especially in cases where medication is administered before the X-ray. He also highlighted the risks for elderly patients with pacemakers who may become trapped in elevators due to power outages.
Despite assurances that establishments providing medical services would be exempt from outages, diagnostic centers received no consideration. Mr. Kouttoukis stated that he tried to contact the Ministry and the Director-General, without success.
Diagnostic centers are facing difficulties in scheduling appointments due to uncertainty about power outages. Mr. Kouttoukis mentioned that many centers do not have UPS systems to protect their machines.
The association of diagnostic centers covers 75% of the centers in Cyprus. Klio Vourkou presented the report.
