Water Supply Interruption in Nicosia Due to Pipeline Damage

A water supply interruption is affecting areas of the Municipality of Lakatamia and the community of Ergates due to damage to a water pipeline of the Department of Water Development (TAY). The damage is affecting the supply of water reservoirs of the EOA and other communities in the Nicosia district.

According to an announcement, the water reserve in the EOA reservoirs has been depleted due to the prolonged duration of the restoration works. TAY is working to repair the damage, without specifying the exact completion time.

The Nicosia EOA informs that after its establishment in July 2024, it proceeded to evaluate the capacity of the existing reservoirs and to erect a new GLS-type water reservoir. The new reservoir is expected to be operational before the end of the year and will increase the autonomy and water sufficiency from 13 to 37 hours in case of interruption of supply from TAY.
