SKIP Transporters Protest Outside Presidential Palace

The Pancyprian Association of Licensed SKIP Transporters protested outside the Presidential Palace, demanding the recognition of their profession and denouncing the closure of a C&D waste recycling unit.
Members of the Association, with approximately 30 skip trucks, submitted a memorandum to the President of the Republic and a meeting was scheduled with the Director of the Department of Environment, Theodoulos Mesimeris.
The President of the Association, Panikos Drousiotis, stated that they are seeking recognition of their profession and expressed concerns about the potential creation of a monopoly due to the closure of the recycling unit. He mentioned that there is only one such unit in Nicosia, two in Limassol, and one in Paphos.
Mr. Drousiotis also mentioned that they received a phone call from the Ministry of Agriculture for a meeting on August 11, hoping for a resolution of their problems.
In the memorandum, the Association expresses its opposition to the closure of the recycling unit, arguing that it deprives them of the right to free competition and will lead to price increases. In addition, they demand immediate recognition of the profession, termination of efforts for a monopoly, and reduction of prices by the recycling units.
