Protest in Mazotos Over Desalination Unit – Letter to Panagiotou

A protest was held in Mazotos on Saturday by the Mazotos Community Council against the decision to install a mobile desalination unit in the area.

The Community Leader of Mazotos, Georgios Dimitriou Pafitis, stated that there is an independent study recommending that a desalination unit should not be installed due to the habitats.

Protesters held banners with slogans such as "We demand environmental protection." The Mazotos Community Council demands the immediate revocation or suspension of the decision and the preparation of a full and independent environmental impact study.

On January 19, the Community Council sent a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, and a meeting with the Ministers of Interior and Agriculture is expected in Mazotos on January 31.

Mr. Pafitis requested Mrs. Panagiotou to present environmental studies during her visit.
