TC Protests Over Queues at Checkpoints

Large queues of vehicles and long delays were observed at the checkpoints over the weekend, causing inconvenience mainly to Turkish Cypriots wishing to enter the free areas, according to reports in the Turkish Cypriot press.

Many attributed the inconvenience to increased checks at the crossing points controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. The reports also mention that the inadequacy of control points in the occupied territories and the limited number of checkpoints contribute to traffic congestion.

A section of the press in the occupied territories estimates that the problem is a result of lack of communication, absence of political will and unilateral practices.
