DIMAL Proposes Investigative Committee for Limassol Fire

Democratic Change (DIMAL) proposes the establishment of an Investigative Committee by the Attorney General to investigate the causes of the devastating fire in mountainous Limassol. The committee will be responsible for assessing the readiness of the authorities, identifying weaknesses, and submitting proposals for improvements.
DIMAL also expressed sorrow for the loss of human lives and the extensive destruction, highlighting long-standing weaknesses and the failure to implement basic prevention measures, such as the removal of flammable vegetation and the creation of water supply infrastructure.
The announcement emphasizes that the President's apology is self-evident but insufficient, and calls for accountability and in-depth investigation to prevent the recurrence of similar tragedies. "Without assigning responsibilities and in-depth investigation, history will repeat itself, with incalculable human and environmental costs," the statement said.
