Famagusta Mayor: Presenter's views were personal

The Mayor of Famagusta, Dr. Simos Ioannou, issued a written statement regarding the reactions caused by the presenter's remarks at an anti-occupation event. The Mayor clarified that the views expressed by the presenter are personal and do not represent the positions of the Municipality of Famagusta.

In his statement, Dr. Ioannou emphasized that the political positions of the Municipality are determined collectively and through the official resolution of the Municipal Council. He also stressed the importance of unity and cooperation for the national issue of Famagusta.

The Mayor stated that he has always had a good working relationship with President Nikos Christodoulides and former President Nikos Anastasiades, emphasizing that serving the cause of Famagusta requires understanding and cooperation with the respective political leadership.

Finally, Dr. Ioannou expressed the view that the style, tone, and content of the event were not compatible with the spirit of political culture.
