Hundreds of New Prostate Cancer Diagnoses Annually in Cyprus

In Cyprus, hundreds of new prostate cancer diagnoses are recorded each year, making it the most common cancer among men. Despite increasing awareness, participation rates in preventive screenings remain low.

At a press conference co-organized by the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center and Europa Uomo Cyprus, on the occasion of the European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day (September 15), the need for systematic information and enhanced prevention was emphasized.

According to research, while 61% of citizens know about the PSA test, only 43% know the risk factors and just 42% know the symptoms of the disease. The President of Europa Uomo Cyprus, Andreas Moiseos, stressed that prostate cancer is not invincible.

The General Director of the Oncology Center, Panos Ergatoudis, underlined the importance of scientific progress and cooperation, while Dr. Dimitrios Vombas urged men not to neglect the annual PSA test.

Representatives from the Ministry of Health, OPAP Cyprus, and the German Medical Institute expressed their support for information and prevention efforts.
