Tensions in Parliament Over July Fire in Limassol Mountains

Amidst tensions, the parliamentary Committees on Interior, Agriculture, and Environment convened urgently regarding the deadly fire of July 23rd in the Limassol mountains, where two people died and 104 square kilometers of land were burned.

The session is chaired by the President of Parliament, Annita Demetriou, with ministers and stakeholders present. The Chief of Police, Themistos Arnaoutis, stated that 13 leads were investigated without testimony, and cigarette butts were collected for examination.

Regarding the death of the couple Dimitris and Maro Filippidis, it was mentioned that they ignored the warning about the dangerous road to Alassa. The Ministers of Interior and Agriculture presented data on their actions during and after the fire, while the Minister of Justice made no statement. Community leaders from the affected areas also addressed the Committee.
