Organized parents are strongly reacting to OELMEK's decision to hold a work stoppage next Thursday. The parents emphasize that the inability to persuade does not justify strike measures that harm the rights of students.

In a statement, the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Parents' Associations of Public Secondary Schools expressed its strong displeasure with the decision, recalling the inconvenience caused by a previous work stoppage on November 19.

The Confederation recognizes the right to strike but stresses the need to respect the right to education. It also states that they cannot support actions that deprive children of the right to education and adds that they expect a more responsible attitude so that parents and students are not inconvenienced.

The statement calls on the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth to take the data into account and make the necessary arrangements to facilitate the students. It is noted that parents will not accept their children being used as a lever of pressure for trade union demands.

The issue will be discussed at the Plenary Session of the Board of Directors on Thursday, December 18, for further decisions.
