Larnaca EOA Implements Project to Eliminate Sewer Odors

The Larnaca District Self-Government Organization (EOA Larnaca) is implementing a €1.5 million project to eliminate hydrogen sulfide and reduce odors in the city's sewer system.
The project includes a new Calcium Nitrate Solution Preparation Unit at the Larnaca Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is fed with solid calcium nitrate and distributed to the sewage pumping stations (J, W, B1, D1, K1, Z1 and future Y) via tanker truck.
Sensors have been installed at the pumping stations to monitor hydrogen sulfide concentration, which are connected to metering systems. The amount of calcium nitrate is automatically adjusted to the needs, ensuring the elimination of hydrogen sulfide and reducing the environmental footprint.
EOA Larnaca is adopting an innovative practice to improve the quality of life for citizens and protect the environment.
