Nicosia Planning Authority: Violations in Building Demolition on Makariou Avenue

The Nicosia Planning Authority (ΕΟΑ) announced serious violations of the demolition permit terms for a building on Makariou Avenue, following an incident where part of the building collapsed and scaffolding was swept onto the road.

According to the announcement, the demolition permit was issued in March 2025 and was accompanied by strict conditions, such as the submission of a detailed plan and methodology report before the start of work, photographic documentation of the pavement, notification to the Planning Authority, and the deposit of a €40,000.00 bank guarantee.

The Planning Authority found that pedestrian and vehicle protection measures were not followed and ordered an immediate halt to the work, demanding full compliance with the permit terms and removal of debris.

The Planning Authority will request that ETEK (Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber) examine the responsibilities of the supervising engineer.
