The damaged desalination plant in Kouklia, with a capacity of 15,000 cubic meters of water per day, is expected to reopen around September 20-25, according to the Chairman of the Paphos EOA, Charalambos Pittokopitis.

The desalination plant in Potima, with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters of water, will also begin operating during the same period, which will increase by another 5,000 cubic meters per day in October.

Mr. Pittokopitis emphasized that the prolonged drought and the destruction of the plant in Kouklia last December are creating difficulties in supplying water to Paphos, but the situation is improving.

Since last week, there has been a boost of 1,000 cubic meters of water per day from the first small mobile unit in Potima, and the second small unit is expected to be operational within the coming week.

Finally, he noted that the water reserves in Asprokremmos are at a low level, but are sufficient for the critical period until the desalination plants operate and the rainfall begins.
