The Chief of the National Guard, Georgios Tsitsikostas, has ordered an administrative investigation regarding allegations against a senior officer concerning his conduct during the deadly fire in mountainous Limassol.

According to journalist Fanis Makridis in "Fileleftheros", the investigation, assigned to the General Inspector of the Army, Andreas Charalambous, focuses on potential disciplinary responsibilities of the officer regarding an incident on July 23 in the Souni area, during the community evacuation operation.

Meteorologist Erik Kitas publicly alleged that the officer responded with an inappropriate phrase when the danger to citizens was pointed out, prioritizing the escape of the Minister of Defense. The officer denies the allegation. The Minister of Defense, Vasilis Palmas, reportedly requested clarifications.

The officer allegedly proposed awarding a commendation to a colonel for his contribution to the removal of political and military leadership from the Coordination Center in Agios Amvrosios.
