ETEK: Immediate Implementation of Interior Ministry Measures for Listed Buildings

The Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) welcomes the measures of the Ministry of Interior to modernize the management of listed buildings, emphasizing the need for their immediate implementation.

Following the collapse of part of a listed building in walled Nicosia, ETEK highlights the criticality of the situation and the need for restoration and maintenance actions.

ETEK considers the increase in restoration costs and faster licensing, as well as the creation of a unified repository database of transferable development rights, a proposal submitted by ETEK itself, to be important.

In addition, ETEK expresses concern about dangerous buildings and calls for the establishment of regular building inspections for the early detection of problems.

ETEK declares its readiness to contribute to the effort to preserve cultural heritage.
