Audit Reveals Delays and Gaps in Nicosia and Limassol A&E Departments

The Audit Office of Cyprus has published a report on a surprise audit conducted in the Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E) of the Nicosia and Limassol General Hospitals, under the State Health Services Organisation (OKYpY). The audit revealed delays, procedural gaps, equipment issues, and problems with telediagnosis.
Key Findings:
- Delays in providing neurosurgeon consultation at the Limassol A&E.
- CT scanner out of service at the Nicosia General Hospital, resulting in patients being transferred to a private hospital.
- Lack of a comprehensive legal framework for telediagnosis.
- Long waiting times for patients in A&E.
The report calls on OKYpY and the competent authorities to take immediate corrective action to improve the quality and safety of healthcare services provided.
