Lofou Fire: Blaze Extinguished, Solidarity Ignited

The devastating fire in the community of Lofou has been extinguished, leaving behind ashes but also a wave of solidarity. More than 100 volunteers from various regions of Cyprus gathered to help restore the community.
Lofou Community Leader, Yiannos Neophytou, stated that the idea originated from Father Fotios Christoforou and the Association of Emigrants, resulting in 100 people responding through a Facebook invitation. Volunteers cleaned yards, roads, and fields, trying to repair the damage.
Mr. Neophytou emphasized the need for immediate restoration of electricity and water supply in the village, as well as the need for housing for some families. Of the 27 houses burned, most were holiday homes. He thanked the Fire Department for their contribution in saving the hotel, which could have led to greater destruction.
Regarding the evacuation of the camp, Mr. Neophytou stated that the children were safely removed before the evacuation of the village, in consultation with the President of the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Parents Associations of Public Secondary Schools, Loizos Konstantinou.
The Lofou Community Council, the Lofou Church Committee and the Lofou Emigrants Association expressed their emotion for the response of the volunteers, emphasizing their invaluable contribution.
