Holy Synod: Weddings Allowed Until December 12th, New Synodal Court

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus has decided that weddings can be performed until December 12th during the Christmas fast, and for the year 2026. The decision was made during the regular session of the Synod under the presidency of Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus.
Furthermore, the Synod elected the members of the new 6-member Synodal Court for the ecclesiastical year 2025-2026 through a draw. The regular members are the Metropolitans of Kyrenia, Limassol, Morphou, Constantia, Trimithountos, and the Bishop of Amathus. The alternate members are the Metropolitans of Kiti, Kykkos, Tamasos, the Bishop of Karpasia, and the Bishop of Arsinoe.
The Synod also examined issues related to the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus and the Clergy Training Seminary, received information from protopresbyter Kyprianos Kountouri, and reviewed the progress of ecclesiastical and secular education. It also drew up the program of events for the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea.
