Holy Synod: New Members of Synodal Court & Decisions on Weddings

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus has decided to allow weddings during the Christmas fast until December 12th for the year 2026. The decision was made during the regular session under the presidency of Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus.
Furthermore, the members of the new 6-member Synodal Court for the ecclesiastical year 2025-2026 were elected. The regular members are the Metropolitan of Kyrenia, Metropolitan of Lemesos, Metropolitan of Morphou, Metropolitan of Constantia, Metropolitan of Trimithountos, and Bishop of Amathus. Alternate members are the Metropolitan of Kition, Metropolitan of Kykkos, Metropolitan of Tamasos, Bishop of Karpasia, and Bishop of Arsinoe.
The Synod also examined issues related to the Theological School and the Clergy Training Seminary, as well as the progress of ecclesiastical and secular education. The program of events for the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea was also drawn up.
