Fire Service Report on Deadly Limassol Fire

The Fire Service has released a report regarding the recent fires in mountainous Limassol and Paphos, prioritizing the rescue of lives and protection of property.

According to the report, on July 22, 2025, there was telephone communication with the Commander of MAE regarding patrols in the Limassol district due to an orange alert. On July 23, 2025, at 13:28, a call was received for a grass fire near the Malia to Arsos road. Two fire engines from Pakhna station responded.

At 13:44, additional assistance and aerial resources were requested as the fire was heading towards Malia village. The National Fire Plan was activated, and at 15:02, 8 aircraft were operating, with 5 more added later.

Simultaneous to the Limassol fire, the Fire Service dealt with a large fire in Agia Varvara, Paphos, at 15:31.

The Fire Service recommends the immediate removal of dry grass, planning for the placement of "fire nests", extending the operating hours of rural fire stations, and strengthening the fleet of fire engines.

25 fire engines, 3 vehicles from the British bases, and 8 from volunteer teams participated in the extinguishing operation in the Limassol district.
