Israeli C-130s Assist in Omodos Wildfire Suppression

According to a press release from the Israeli Embassy, the deployment of fire retardant by two Israeli C-130 aircraft was crucial in the effort to contain the wildfire in Omodos. The aircraft reinforced the Cypriot firefighting forces.
The use of fire retardant significantly aided ground units by creating time and a protective zone. The primary goal was to prevent the fire from spreading towards Troodos.
The planes arrived in Cyprus shortly after 9:00 PM, conducted test runs, and made two drops at 10:15 PM and 10:30 PM at locations designated by Cypriot authorities. Following the mission, they returned to Israel.
Chemical fire retardants create protective barriers, reducing the speed of the fire and giving ground forces time. Despite the risk of fires in its own territory, Israel is assisting Cyprus.
