Kassianidou Announces Measures for Damaged Ancient Monuments in Limassol

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou, announced that measures will be taken to restore damage to eight ancient monuments in the Limassol mountainous region, which were affected by the recent fire. Ms. Kassianidou will visit the fire-stricken areas tomorrow, Monday, along with a team from the Department of Antiquities, to assess the damage.
According to Ms. Kassianidou, the watermill in the Kapsalia location, in Kissousa, the medieval bridge in the Eliomylos location, in Potamiou, the ruins of the early Christian period in the Hiliantris location, the ruins of the church of Agios Stylianos, the Byzantine building complex in the Aspri Moutti location, the ruins of the church of Agios Siallomi, and the ruins of two other churches in the Souni-Zanatzia community have been damaged.
The Deputy Minister of Culture emphasized that in addition to the material damage to houses and infrastructure, the fire also affected important monuments. She also mentioned that 57 monuments belonging to individuals or the church were not damaged. Ms. Kassianidou will meet with the Community Leaders to discuss possible cancellations of cultural events and the provision of financial support to artists.
