Delays in Implementing 112 in Cyprus

The deadly fire in mountainous Lemesos highlighted the shortcomings in the implementation of the 112 system in Cyprus. Amid criticism, the Minister of Justice, Marios Hartsiotis, stated that the implementation of 112 is a pre-election commitment of the President, and the government is moving forward rapidly.
Mr. Hartsiotis added that the Fire Service has signed the contract for the assignment of 112, while the Police and other services will follow soon.
The representative of the Civil Defense, Panagiotis Liasidis, mentioned that the tender for the 112 system was announced in 2022 but was delayed due to appeals. A new tender is in progress, with the offers having expired in February.
