Mesana Village Issues SOS: Only 30 Residents Remain

The community leader of Mesana, Periklis Masakaris, has voiced his concern over the drastically reduced population of the village, now home to only 30 residents. In statements to ΚΥΠΕ, Mr. Masakaris emphasized that the village once had at least 260 residents, but urbanization has led to the desertification of Mesana and other communities.
Mr. Masakaris stated that the community is struggling to survive, despite the lack of a school and café, and young couples are not settling in the village. He also expressed complaints about the transfer of water from their area to the Kokkinochoria region, without them benefiting from irrigation redevelopment.
Encouragingly, expatriate Mesanians visit the village on weekends and holidays. The community leader is working with the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, to solve the problems.
Mesana, one of the wine-producing villages in the Paphos district, is located at an altitude of 560 meters and attracts visitors seeking tranquility and inspiration. It produces traditional products such as wine, zivania, palouzes, and soutzoukos.
