Donations Exceed €1 Million for Cyprus Fire Victims

Donations exceeding €1 million have been collected in a special account opened by the Central Bank of Cyprus to financially support fire victims. As of July 30, the total amount reached approximately €1.2 million, according to statements by Accountant General Andreas Antoniadis to the Cyprus News Agency (CYPE).
Mr. Antoniadis stated that some donations exceed €100,000 and that the aim is not just to collect a large sum, but to satisfy the public's need to contribute to a good cause. The donations will not be used to cover state plans, but for a separate purpose related to the tragedy and the fire victims.
The decision on how the donations will be used will be made by the Council of Ministers. Mr. Antoniadis assured that there will be full transparency and accountability, with an analysis of the donations in amount categories. Information on the volume of each transaction category, as well as the largest donation made, will be made public.
Once the payment of donations is completed, the Government will transparently present the purpose and sub-purposes for which the total amount was used.
