The Audit Office of Cyprus, headed by Auditor General Andreas Papaconstantinou, has identified significant design flaws in the new bus shelters, particularly concerning passenger visibility towards oncoming vehicles. The report deems the situation "unprecedented and unacceptable" in relation to international standards.

The report clarifies that there is no technical error in the installation, but highlights that the use of the "Small Shelter" in some locations, combined with the absence of a right-hand pillar, creates the impression of incorrect placement. The limited visibility is mainly attributed to the position of the main pillar and the bench.

The Audit Office identifies a combination of three design flaws: the placement of the pillar on the side of oncoming vehicles, the non-transparency of the pillar, and the bench being in contact with the pillar, which restricts the field of vision.

Responsibility is placed on the Department of Public Works (TDE), which allegedly intervened in the initial design and ignored the recommendations of the Technical Advisor. The Audit Office also criticized the TDE for the inadequate utilization of the project's pilot phase.

The Audit Office warns that the current design undermines the safety and functionality of public transport, as it does not ensure visual contact between drivers and passengers.
