Cyprus: Nearly 100,000 New Drivers in Five Years

Nearly 100,000 new driver's licenses have been issued in Cyprus over the past five years, according to data presented by the Ministry of Transport to the Parliament, following a question from independent MP Alexandra Attalidou. A total of 94,235 people obtained a driver's license in the last five years.

Most licenses are for saloon vehicles (108,180), followed by motorcycles up to 125cc. There has been an increase in licenses for taxis, with 1,622 new drivers in the last five years, while interest in bus licenses remains low (534).

The origin of the new drivers is interesting. For licenses for motorcycles up to 125cc, after Cypriots, Indians and Russians follow. For licenses for saloon vehicles, after Cypriots, Romanians and Russians follow.

Regarding driving schools, Nicosia ranks first with 74 schools and 114 instructors, followed by Limassol with 67 schools and 103 instructors.
