Traffic Disruptions in Cyprus Due to EU Summit

Cyprus is under heightened security due to the Informal Meeting of Heads of State of the European Union, taking place on April 23 and 24, 2026. The Police have implemented increased security measures, including traffic arrangements and restrictions in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta.
During the two days, there will be short-term road closures on the urban road network and on the Nicosia – Larnaca and Larnaca – Ayia Napa highways. Specifically, closures will occur in the Ayia Napa Marina area (16:00 – 23:00) on April 23 and at the Conference Center in Nicosia (07:30 – 18:00) on April 24.
Specifically, part of Ayia Thekla Avenue and adjacent roads around Ayia Napa Marina will be closed on Thursday (16:00-23:00). On Friday, Aglantzia Avenue from the Aluminium Tower traffic lights to the Akadimias roundabout will be closed (07:30-18:00).
The Joint Rescue Coordination Center has issued a NAVTEX notice (NW 120/26) prohibiting navigation around Ayia Napa Marina (16:00-23:00) on April 23. Furthermore, by order of the Minister of Transport, the use of drones is prohibited throughout Cyprus on April 23 and 24.
The public is asked to be patient and comply with the traffic regulations and the instructions of the police officers on duty.
