Traffic Chaos at Cyprus Crossings Over the Weekend

Long queues and significant delays were observed at the Cyprus crossings over the weekend, causing considerable inconvenience mainly to Turkish Cypriots wishing to enter the free areas, according to reports in the Turkish Cypriot press.
The situation, which was repeated on both Saturday and Sunday, has caused strong discontent. Many attributed the inconvenience to increased checks at the crossing points controlled by the Republic of Cyprus.
Reports also state that the inadequacy of control points in the occupied territories, as well as the limited total number of available crossings, contribute to the traffic congestion.
A section of the press in the occupied territories estimates that the problem is a result of lack of communication, absence of political will and unilateral practices.
