Cyprus EU Presidency: Initiatives for Youth Involvement
As part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), targeted initiatives were implemented to actively involve young people in EU affairs. These initiatives showcased the creativity and European awareness of young people from across Cyprus.
These included a children's logo competition and the publication of a calendar for the Cyprus Presidency 2026. The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency, implemented an art competition entitled 'Creating a children's logo of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026', aimed at students in grades D' to ST' of Public and Private Primary Schools.
A Fine and Applied Arts Competition was also held for secondary school students, resulting in the exhibition 'Europe in Cyprus' at the Conference Center, as part of the Informal Meeting of Education Ministers, on January 29-30, 2026.
The Department of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training announced a 'Commemorative Gift Creation Competition'. Among the winning entries were a bronze and silver bookmark, the project 'Make Pastellaki' and the wooden figure 'Η Choraïtissa'.
Students of the 'Evangelismos' Special School created a symbolic handmade gift (coaster) for the Informal Meeting of the Employment and Social Policy Council, on February 12-13. A similar action is being implemented by the Nicosia Special School.
In addition, six plant statues (Green Living Sculptures) were constructed and placed by students of the Regional Agricultural, Technical and Vocational School of Famagusta/Avgorou and the Lyceum of Solia, at the Presidential Palace and the Conference Center.
