Larnaca: Implementation of Bus Lanes and Bicycle Lanes

The Ministry of Transport has announced the signing of a contract for the implementation of bus lanes and bicycle lanes in Larnaca. The project, titled "Priority Projects of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) of Larnaca," was signed on August 13, 2025, between the Department of Public Works and Araco Construction Cy Ltd.

The project aims to promote public transport and develop multimodality by reconfiguring the main road axes of the city. It includes works such as road surface reconstruction, the creation of bus lanes and bicycle lanes, the construction of parking spaces, the reconstruction of sidewalks, and the installation of new traffic lights.

According to the announcement, on roads incorporating bicycle lanes, space will be allocated for cyclists with distinct markings and physical separations. On some roads, the cycling infrastructure will be built on the sidewalk.

The tender was awarded to Araco Construction Cy Ltd for €18,343,026.30 plus VAT. Work is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and is expected to be completed in January 2027.

The project is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and national resources.
