Limassol: Mapping of Burned Land Completed β 104 sq km

The new and more accurate mapping of the burned area in the Limassol district has been completed by the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence of CUT. The final area is estimated at 104 square kilometers.
In previous estimates, the burned area ranged between 120.7 and 124 sq km. The new mapping was based on very high-resolution (30 cm) WorldView Legion Ortho-ready Bundle satellite images.
The image, delivered by GEOSERVE NL on July 28, 2025, was free of clouds and smoke, allowing for more accurate calculations. GTFire, a forest fire monitoring tool, was used for the analysis.
The burned area was recalculated to 104 sq km through the collaboration of Eratosthenes, the Forest Management and Remote Sensing Laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (FMRS AUTh), and GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS (GSH).
The Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence has a strategic collaboration with TheGoldentwins, a co-funded Public-Private Partnership program, coordinated by GEOSYSTEMS HELLAS S.A.
