Leros: Phone Scams Impersonating Municipality Employees
Share on:

An alert has been issued in Leros due to a surge in phone scams. Scammers are impersonating employees of the Leros Municipality accounting office and extorting money from unsuspecting citizens.

The perpetrators mainly target suppliers of the Municipality, posing as municipal employees or elected officials. They call and ask for bank account details or PINs, and in some cases, they try to persuade victims to connect to fake e-banking pages via malicious links.

The Municipality of Leros and Mayor Τιμόθεος Κωττάκης are urging citizens to be careful and not to give personal information to strangers.

In a statement, the Municipality emphasizes that it never asks for account details from citizens over the phone and calls on citizens to be especially careful.
