The Mia Milia wastewater treatment plant can supply the free areas with enough water to significantly reduce the water problem, according to Michalis Laizidis, a member of the bi-communal technical committee on the environment.

Speaking on the Third Programme, Mr. Laizidis stated that the station receives 12 million tons of water annually, an amount sufficient to green the entire Nicosia. He noted that the water had remained unexploited for political reasons, while normally 70% should end up in the free areas and 30% in the occupied territories.

Mr. Loizidis expressed satisfaction with the decision of the two leaders to utilize the station and congratulated President Christodoulides and Erhurman. He pointed out that for the project to operate, infrastructure is needed in the Potamia and Athienou area, so that the water can revitalize these areas and western Nicosia, contributing to the country's water balance.
