Testimonies from Tsada Fire: 'We Saw the Fire Coming Towards Us'

The response of the firefighting forces to yesterday's major fire in the Paphos district is positively assessed. Information is being investigated that suggests the fire started from an illegal garbage dump.
Speaking on State Radio, the Press Representative of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, stressed that 'you cannot predict the behavior of a fire, based on environmental conditions,' adding that climatic conditions are a catalytic factor.
According to Mr. Kettis, the fire 'was completely on the edge of residential boundaries,' while the possibility of it starting from a garbage dump is being investigated.
The dramatic moments experienced by the residents of Tsada were described by the Community Leader of the area, Marios Ioannou, who faced the flames. 'We saw the fire coming towards us,' he said.
