Cyprus Dam Capacity at 21% Amidst Rainfall Concerns

The overall capacity of dams across Cyprus stands at 21%, according to statements made to ΚΥΠΕ by Marios Hatzikostis, A’ Technical Engineer at the Water Development Department (ΤΑΥ).
During the same period last year, the capacity was 25.4%, with 73.8 million cubic meters of water. This year, the stored quantity is 61.15 million cubic meters, marking a decrease.
Mr. Hatzikostis emphasized that rainfall on the southwestern side of Troodos is important for replenishing reserves. Despite improvements in February, reserves remain low. He expressed hope for rainfall in March.
Furthermore, Mr. Hatzikostis highlighted the importance of desalination units for the water supply of the Limassol, Nicosia, and Larnaca districts, which cover approximately 70% of drinking water needs.
