10% Water Supply Cut: Impacts and Concerns
Share on:

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to cut water supplies to the District Self-Government Organizations (EOA) by 10% due to the low dam capacity, which is only at 14.1%. This decision has raised concerns about potential water cuts for consumers.

The General Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Andreas Grigoriou, stated that 104 million cubic meters of water will be allocated to the EOAs for 2026, an amount corresponding to the actual consumption of 2024. However, the EOAs expressed their concerns, with the Nicosia EOA warning of cuts to properties.

Despite the rains and overflows of small dams, the overall dam capacity remains low. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasizes desalination units and reclaimed water to address the problem. The installation of four new desalination units is progressing, with two of them expected in Limassol.
