The Department of Agriculture has sent recommendations to local authorities and letters to the District Administrations of Larnaca, Limassol, and Paphos to take preventive measures against foot-and-mouth disease.

The recommendations concern the implementation of biosecurity measures in all livestock areas. Support for those affected and strict implementation of protocols to limit the spread of the virus are requested.

Foot-and-mouth disease has appeared in livestock units for two weeks. The Department of Agriculture has already sent written recommendations to the Local Authorities, as in the case of the Municipality of Aradippou, to strengthen biosecurity measures.

The instructions include placing wheel baths at the entrance and exit of each livestock area, with the cost covered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. In areas with multiple entrances, these should be closed so that entry is only through the disinfection points.

The Department expresses satisfaction with the response of the Municipality of Aradippou in the construction of wheel baths.
