Measures Announced for School Bus Vandalism in Cyprus

Strict penalties have been announced by Ministers and parents' representatives for students who vandalize school buses. The decision followed a meeting at the Ministry of Transport, with the participation of the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis, the Minister of Education, Athina Michaelidou, and representatives of parents and the Police.
Increasing incidents of violence and damage to public property have led to the suspension of some routes. Alexis Vafeadis stressed that the safety of students is of utmost importance and announced an increased presence of supervisors and enhanced controls. Parents will be required to pay for the damages.
Athina Michaelidou stressed zero tolerance for incidents of violence and the need for education and information for students and parents. Loizos Konstantinou, President of the Pancyprian Confederation of Parents' Associations, stated that tolerance has ended.
