A blackout occurred in the occupied territories on Friday due to a serious disruption in electricity production.

According to initial reports, the disruption was caused by an explosion at a production substation in occupied Morphou. Following the explosion, power plants were shut down, causing the blackout.

The damaged section of the grid was disconnected from the system, allowing the remaining units to gradually return to operation and power supply to be restored in stages.

So far, the assistance of the Republic of Cyprus has not been deemed necessary.
