New Foot-and-Mouth Disease Cases in Nicosia and Larnaca – 59 Infected Farms

New cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in five livestock units in the districts of Nicosia and Larnaca, following tracing efforts by the Veterinary Services.
Epidemiological sampling in all districts has been completed, with results so far being negative. However, tracing in the infected areas revealed five additional positive goat and sheep units. Specifically, three units were identified in Dromolaxia-Meneou and two in Geri, bringing the total number of infected units to 59, of which 53 are located in Larnaca and six in Nicosia.
The second phase of vaccination has reached 64% for cattle and 35% for sheep and goats. In pigs, 73% of units within the protection and surveillance zone have been vaccinated.
Compensation payments have begun for the destroyed milk from the infected units, with payments expected in producers' accounts within the week.
