Fifteen years after the architectural competition, the Engineering School of the University of Cyprus is now ready to welcome its first students. The project is the result of collaboration between the architectural firms X. H. Chrysanthou, Heracles Papachristou, and Anastasios Kotsiopoulos.

The new facilities, with a total area of 35,000 sq.m., will house three departments: Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Engineering, covering a wide range of research fields.

The building consists of three wings and a central zone with shared functions and the School's administration. The spaces are organized into a wing system with research laboratories, courtyards, graduate student areas, and teaching spaces.

The architects explain that the wing spaces are oriented to the south and north, adapted to the elevation difference of the plot. The central zone includes the semi-outdoor pedestrian movement and the reception areas of the departments.

The central zone also houses the administration areas, with wooden cladding and louvers for shading and hot air extraction, also functioning as an energy collector with photovoltaics.

The central heating and cooling system minimizes energy needs, with full air conditioning and a geothermal system.

The work of Cypriot sculptor Dimitris Konstantinou 'Geometric Planes' will be placed in the new spaces.

The final cost of the building is approximately €67 million plus VAT, co-financed by the Republic of Cyprus, the European Investment Bank, and the Council of Europe Development Bank.
