New School Year in Cyprus: Construction and Air Conditioning in Schools

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athina Michaelidou, stated that the school year begins with positive prospects, following a meeting on fire safety in schools.
According to Ms. Michaelidou, 98% of teaching positions have been filled. Minor issues are expected to arise due to legislation allowing teachers to decline their appointment.
The installation of air conditioners in schools is ongoing, with the aim of completion within three years. Air conditioners have already been installed in almost all kindergartens and high schools. Priority is given to primary and secondary schools, with the aim of completing the project by the end of 2026.
Furthermore, Ms. Michaelidou referred to the evaluation of teachers and upcoming meetings with educational organizations to submit an updated bill to Parliament in September.
Finally, the Minister mentioned 17 major projects and 22 ongoing projects in schools, emphasizing that the presence of construction sites is a positive sign of development and improvement.
