New Test SMS for Early Population Alert System in Cyprus

Cyprus' Civil Defence announced plans for a new test SMS in the coming days, aimed at perfecting the system for early population alerts in crisis situations. According to the Commander of the Civil Defence, Maria Papa, the system is expected to be fully operational by early June.
In statements following a meeting with the President of DIKO, Nikolas Papadopoulos, Ms. Papa stated that there is a "very good level of readiness", despite existing "weaknesses". She emphasized that the Civil Defence is working on prevention and preparation of the population, without causing panic.
Ms. Papa urged citizens to follow announcements and measures to be taken, stressing that information increases resilience and effectiveness in dealing with risks. Regarding the mass information system, the Commander mentioned that the recent test effort had some weaknesses, which are being evaluated by the Deputy Ministry of Innovation in collaboration with mobile phone providers.
When asked about the possibility of repeating the process, Ms. Papa answered affirmatively, confirming that there is an intention for a new test SMS in the coming days.
